International Travel Requirements

Do I need a passport to fly to a foreign country?

All United States citizens must present a valid passport for international travel.  Some foreign countries require that the validity of the passport be at least 6 months beyond the end of your intended stay.

Go online to www.travel.state.gov, then to the country information section to read about your destination.  Among other things, it will discuss entry requirements and let you know if a visa is required for travel to that country.

Do I need a passport if I am going to take a cruise from a United States port?

Cruises that depart from and return to a United States port do not require passports for United States citizens. All that is needed is a certified copy of your birth certificate with raised seal, along with a valid government issued photo I.D. (for adults).  Photo I.D.'s are not required for minors.

CAUTION:  If you are on a cruise and need to fly back to the United States from a foreign port of call due to an emergency, a passport will be required.
