Do I need a passport to fly to a foreign country?
All United States citizens must present a valid passport for international travel. Some foreign countries require that the validity of the passport be at least 6 months beyond the end of your intended stay.
Go online to www.travel.state.gov
, then to the country information section to read about your destination. Among other things, it will discuss entry requirements and let you know if a visa is required for travel to that country.
Do I need a passport if I am going to take a cruise from a United States port?
Cruises that depart from and return to a United States port do not require passports for United States citizens. All that is needed is a certified copy of your birth certificate with raised seal, along with a valid government issued photo I.D. (for adults). Photo I.D.'s are not required for minors.
CAUTION: If you are on a cruise and need to fly back to the United States from a foreign port of call due to an emergency, a passport will be required.
